Kwanusila is a red cedar totem pole that stands 12.2 meters (40 feet) tall. It is located in the Lake View neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, at Addison Street, just east of Lake Shore Drive. A grimacing sea monster at the bottom, a man riding a whale above it, and Kwanusila the Thunderbird on top are among the brightly painted totems.
After the fair, cheese baron James L. Kraft, founder of Kraft Foods, bought the first Hunt totem pole, which he later donated to the city of Chicago. In 1929, it was built in the park. It was sent to the University of British Columbia’s Museum of Anthropology in 1985 for research and restoration after suffering from inadequate care, weathering, and vandalism over the years. 1st
