I have Cannet and live in Guildford, Surrey. They pay $30 a month for Internet 75 and paid $170 for their wired modem outright. I’ve been with them for about three months and have had no problems except for the fact that they replaced their lousy combo wireless modem.
Did they take care of canceling Shaw’s service and moving you in a seamless manner? And I’m assuming the $30 with modem purchase was an older deal, or can I still buy it for $40-$10 and avoid the rental fee?

I’m on my own in terms of canceling another third-party supplier. I planned the cancellation for the same weekend as Cannet’s installation. After calling them after some delays on Shaw’s end, I was without internet for almost a day while waiting for them to unlock the service.
So, I’m actually with Surf Internet and would like to upgrade from a 5Mbps plan to a 25Mbps plan. Their customer service representative informed me that I would need to purchase a new modem from them for $89 in order to satisfy the higher internet speed. According to him, the modem they sold me is not built to handle anything more than 5Mbps – the circuitry could overheat and burst into flames (!) if I tried to use it at 25Mbps. I might refuse to update my modem, but I’d be taking a chance.
