The United States Patent and Trademark Office granted iOptions patent number 7337141 in February 2008 for its employee stock option hedging and monetization plan inventions. Employee stock option holders can use vested employee stock options issued by publicly traded companies as collateral in some listed option hedging and monetization strategies without the need for margin, thanks to a new margin rule established by iOptions, the International Securities Exchange, Inc., and the Chicago Board Options Exchange. Prior to June 2009, such transactions were considered “naked” for margin rule purposes and required a cash margin deposit, essentially making the strategies prohibitively expensive and impractical. The iOptions/ISE and iOptions/Chicago Board Options Exchange rules were approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission on June 17, 2009.
With respect to its proprietary employee equity option hedging and monetization techniques, iOptions licenses intellectual property rights. iOptions also offers consulting and education to businesses and their staff, as well as financial planners and brokers. This is the third installment of a three-part series on Chicago’s Experimental Film Coalition, and it focuses on their annual experimental film festival. Part One can be found here, and Part Two can be found here. In addition to their monthly screenings, the Coalition created what was originally known as the Experimental Film Festival or the Festival of Experimental Film. It’s more likely that the first one took place in 1984. It was renamed the Onion City Film Festival in 1987, and it has remained that name ever since. Onion City was produced by the Coalition until 2001, when it was taken over by Chicago Filmmakers and continues to be produced to this day. The year was 1984. The dates of the first Experimental Film Festival, as well as the exact list of films that were shown, are unknown at this time. Filmmaker Paul Glabicki, on the other hand, claims that his film Film-Wipe-Film received a Jury Award. In the year 1985, The dates and films to be shown at the second Experimental Film Festival are still unknown.
