However, I have not engaged in any serious preparation. I sometimes realize that, despite my age, I should take it seriously and start from the beginning. Ball handling is one of the things I’m working on right now.
I’ve seen a lot of tutorials and videos of handling exercises that include two hoops, a tennis ball, and repetitions of simple moves like crossover, in and out, between the knees, behind the back, and so on. I try to follow these drills and practice from time to time, but I’ve discovered that I have a more fundamental issue: how to properly perform a behind-the-back crossover.
When I try to do these “pure drills,” I always lose the ball because it hits my buttocks or ankles when I do the behind the back crossover. Is this implying that I should bend my shoulder even further to the back? Is it better if I bend my knee more? Is it simply a case of needing more practice to get the “feel” of the move?
You don’t want to take up a lot of space with the ball while doing a Moving Behind the Back Move (like a big circular windup) – the move should be fast, tight, and close to your body. Slapping your lower back on the opposite side is a trick you should try. This would speed up the process and make it less vulnerable to theft. When many players attempt this pass, they generally try to do it as a big windup around their back, when it should be a fairly straight and fast wrap.

The crossover dribble is one of the most effective ways to keep hold of the ball when under heavy pressure or trying to get by your guy. It’s the point guard’s main weapon when he’s under defensive pressure and trying to get up the court. It is, however, a fantastic way to set oneself up for a scoring chance. The crossover dribble can be used to get to the basket and build space between you and your defender. It can also be used to set up your jump shot (a move we will go into later).
Begin at one of the court’s ends. In your right side, place the ball (For purposes of this drill, whether you are right or left handed is not important, given that you need to be able to perform this move with equal effectiveness using either hand). Then, when going forward with your right foot, dribble the ball from your right to your left hand in one motion. Your left foot can touch the floor just before the ball reaches your hand if done correctly. Start with the ball in your left hand and repeat the movement. Do this drill at a walking speed until you’re comfortable with your footwork and ball control to the point that you can do it at a jogger’s pace. Within a few weeks, you should be able to run up and down the floor at full speed. This drill should be completed for ten minutes, with the player taking a thirty-second break at one-minute intervals.

Combining these steps for catastrophic outcomes is a good idea. Most 2K players won’t get any further than randomly flicking and mashing the right stick. It takes a lot of practice to flick it intentionally for a particular, desired move.
