Nelson starred on the long-running sitcom The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet with his brother and their parents in the 1950s and 1960s. Nelson directed several episodes late in the series’ run. He kept acting, directing, and producing after the series ended. Nelson’s most successful ‘breakout’ role was in the 1959 thriller The Big Circus, in which he played a disturbed, seemingly homicidal ‘troubled youth,’ while his final film appearance was in the campier Cry-Baby (1990). Nelson was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 1501 Vine Street on May 9, 1996, for his contributions to the motion picture industry. [two]
