The coin is bimetallic, with a brass ring circling a cupronickel heart. It weighs 7.8 grams, measures 23 millimeters in diameter, and is 2.5 millimeters thick. On the obverse, the Jamaican coat of arms is portrayed, with the value below it and the title above it. Marcus Garvey is portrayed on the reverse, with the year below him and the legend “THE RT. EXCELLENT MARCUS GARVEY NATIONAL HERO” above him.
