We held our pledge as the Democratic Majority to pass comprehensive gun violence prevention legislation. Virginia has passed landmark legislation on a variety of issues, including closing the background check loophole at gun shows and establishing high risk protection orders (so-called “red flag” laws).
The House of Delegates finished its last more-than-12-hour marathon floor session at 11:12 p.m. on Saturday. We adjourned sine die on Monday. (An adjournment “without a date” set to reconvene is known as sin die in Latin.) It was another landmark session for the Virginia House of Delegates, the first completely virtual session in the chamber’s 402-year history — historic also for the breadth of progressive legislation passed by Democrats in our second year in power in more than a quarter-century.
On the plus side, my constitutional amendment affirming marriage equality in Virginia was approved by both houses. My bills on virtual meetings and safe elections passed the Senate and are now on their way to the Governor’s desk. My Safe Capitol Bill will be introduced in the Senate tomorrow and will most likely be referred to a conference committee. I am certain that it will pass.

In 2017, elections were held in New York City for mayor, public defender, comptroller, and all 51 seats on the city council. The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island residents have voted for offices in their respective boroughs.
On September 12, 2017, primary elections were held, and the general election was held on November 7, 2017. Candidates who run unopposed in a primary or general election in New York automatically win the nomination or election, and their names do not appear on the ballot. In the general election for the District 7 seat on the New York City Council, incumbent Mark Levine (D) defeated Florindo Troncelliti (Green).

Stringer and Levine both support Stringer for mayor, as does Manhattan BP.

Decision nyc: 2021 manhattan borough president candidate
24th of March, 2021
Comptroller Scott Stringer, who served as Manhattan borough president from 2006 to 2013, has endorsed Mark Levine for the position of borough president. And Levine, a powerful City Council member on Manhattan’s West Side, is supporting Stringer for mayor in the hopes of bolstering his popularity in one of the city’s most populous wards. The co-endorsement, which was exclusively announced by City & State, isn’t entirely unexpected. Progressive leaders are ideologically allied, and they supported one another in their competitive 2013 elections. A number of personal ties exist among the candidates’ teams. When Stringer’s campaign manager, Micah Lasher, ran for state Senate in 2016, Levine backed him. Tyrone Stevens, Stringer’s communications director, previously served as Levine’s communications director, and Levine is a loyal ally of Rep. Adriano Espaillat, who endorsed Stringer in October 2020.
