Jen Easterly considered taking a job as Global Head of Morgan Stanley’s Fusion Center, which is responsible for preventing, detecting, and responding to cyber threats to the company and its clients, but first considered her skill set. She was a retired Army intelligence officer who worked in command and staff roles all over the world, including establishing the Army’s first cyber operations unit and then serving as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Counterterrorism, where she was in charge of developing and coordinating global counterterrorism and hostage policy.
Although working for a bank may not seem to be a good fit considering her experience, Easterly saw it differently. She explains, “It was just an extension of the national security mission that I had been doing for 27 years.” “It’s about defending a business that is a critical part of our economy. This was, first and foremost, a mission with a meaning, similar to what I did in the Army.”
