👍 Arthas in shadowlands
He’s one of my favorite Tanks/Bruisers to play, and I’ve admired the Lich King since World of Warcraft. His HotS model hasn’t held up well over time, and to be honest, it didn’t look great to begin with. Frostmourne is stubby, with clunky armor that looks like it’s made of styrofoam. Under the Helm of Dominion, you can also see his profile, and one of the Lich King’s (both Arthas and Bolvar) trademark looks is that you can’t see his face but can see the glowing of his eyes.
Some of the Warcraft heroes received decent models that look very close to their WoW counterparts, but I think I’m expecting too much because I know their budgets have been cut and remaking old models isn’t a priority.
As far as this is concerned, I must disagree. Arthas was never hurried in his travels. Like Michael Meyers, he just keeps coming at you. After attempting to steal the Frostmourne, you and Sylvanas must flee from him in a WoW dungeon, and he simply walks after you, summoning Ice walls to obstruct your escape.
That’s a terrible pity. I’m having a hard time coming up with a strong mount skin combination for him. All seems to be clumsy and incorrect. I like the bat skins for the added mount, but with the ten gallon helmet, it looks very bad.
📘 Shadowlands notes
I bought Arthas’ costume this year out of curiosity, and I quickly noticed that his model had changed. Rather than using the standard human rig for which he was developed. Arthas now employs the HD human animation rig, with minor tweaks to his mouth, eyes, and armor texture.
It’s odd that they bothered, since you can now create Arthas from the character development menu, so if they wanted a new NPC, they should have just done that. It would have been more work to carve up his armor to make it suit the actual player model, however.

“Nothing will stop me from exacting my vengeance, old friend. Even you aren’t immune. I’m calling out to the spirits of this place right now. If you can help me save my people, I will give anything or pay any price.”
Arthas Menethil, Crown Prince of Lordaeron and Knight of the Silver Hand, was the heir to the throne and the son of King Terenas Menethil II. He was inducted into the Order of the Silver Hand after being trained as a paladin by Uther the Lightbringer. Arthas had a romantic relationship with Jaina Proudmoore, a kind sorceress. Arthas was dedicated to the safety of his people and was able to avoid the plague from spreading through Lordaeron.
Despite his promising beginnings, Arthas grew into one of Azeroth’s most powerful and evil beings. Arthas was unable to avoid the plague’s spread, despite killing the necromancer Kel’Thuzad, and had to resort to increasingly drastic measures, such as purging the city of Stratholme. Arthas was able to kill the demon Mal’Ganis by using the cursed runeblade Frostmourne, but he lost his soul in the process. He became a Scourge death knight and led the undead in the destruction of Lordaeron, Quel’Thalas, and Dalaran. Arthas eventually made his way to Icecrown’s Frozen Throne and merged with the Lich King. [number six]
