Luis Jose Coronado, 30, was charged with manslaughter with a firearm after shooting a known person at a home in the 5000 block of Sydney Road following an altercation. Coronado was arrested in Polk County on December 8th. Coronado’s previous booking photo is included.
Deputies were dispatched to South Florida Baptist Hospital, 301 N Alexander Street in Plant City, on November 25, 2020, at approximately 9:28 p.m., in response to a shooting. A bullet wound had been sustained by an adult male victim who was taken to the hospital. The victim was given life-saving steps, but he died as a result of his injuries.
The shooting took place on the 5000 block of Sydney Road in Plant City, according to detectives. They arrived at the scene and served a court-ordered search warrant on the residence where the shooting occurred earlier that evening. The residents of the house were interviewed by detectives there.
“I’m asking you to please come forward with any details you have about what happened last night on Sydney Road,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said.
“What seems to be a minor piece of knowledge might help solve what happened to this victim last night.”

PLANT CITY, FLORIDA (AP) — According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, an investigation is underway after one individual was killed during a shooting at a birthday party in Plant City. The shooting occurred about 12:30 a.m. on Sunday in the 5000 block of W O Griffin Road, according to deputies. According to deputies, about 60 people were at the birthday party when an altercation turned into gunshots. Four people were taken to nearby hospitals. One person died, while the other three are “expected to live.” Everyone involved, according to deputies, is cooperating with the investigation.

Deputies arrested a man accused of firing an assault weapon at detectives and killing a bystander on Friday, capping a daylong manhunt that resulted in school lockdowns and terrified residents in a Central Florida neighborhood. Francisco Rangel was apprehended just before 4 p.m. Friday in Plant City after being seen wandering between two houses, according to authorities. After a shooting in Plant City on Thursday that killed one man and seriously wounded another, a warrant for Rangel’s arrest was released, according to law enforcement officials. Rangel was apprehended at an area home on Friday morning, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, before fleeing in a white sport utility vehicle. Rangel is accused of firing between 17 and 20 rounds from an assault rifle similar to an AK-47 at the end of a high-speed chase. One of those rounds, according to investigators, hit a 58-year-old man who happened to be nearby. Candelario Lagunes was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

ilmer Rosales, a/k/a “DoubleU,” 22, of Plant City, pleaded guilty in federal court to attempting to trade in controlled drugs, committing robbery, using a weapon to kill Grant Urquhart in the first degree in furtherance of the drug conspiracy, and possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon.
Rosales and Sierra allegedly lured Urquhart to Springhead Park in Plant City, which is near Springhead Elementary School. Rosales and Sierra pretended to want to buy marijuana from Urquhart, but their true intention was to rob him.
Rosales and his accomplices waited in nearby cars, armed—Rosales with a 7.62 mm rifle—while Sierra boarded Urquhart’s vehicle to commit the robbery. Sierra took Urquhart’s weed and money before fleeing. As Urquhart pursued Sierra, Rosales sped by and fired several shots at him, hitting him several times.
Rosales and his accomplices then exited the scene. Rosales returned to the scene soon after the shooting and opened fire on Urquhart, who was lying on the ground and being helped by others. Urquhart died as a result of the bullet wounds he received.
