🤘 Astronomy picture of the day

Val Landi created The Daily Galaxy in 2007. He founded his blog with the belief that science and space exploration would become the dominant themes of mainstream culture in the twenty-first century. The Daily Galaxy brings you breaking news and in-depth analysis of recent discoveries, people, and events that are transforming our understanding of our world and the universe. With their awesome photos, videos, and easy-to-understand stories, you will learn something new every day. You will be automatically subscribed to the services at your subscribed rate after your 14-day free trial has ended. To prevent being paid, you can cancel your subscription at any time during your 14-day free trial. The Terms of Service provide additional details about your free trial.

Oh, how delightful! I was browsing the blogs the other day and came across an intriguingly named post titled New Theory Nixes “Dark Energy”: According to him, time is vanishing from the universe. It’s going to be fantastic! I pondered.
The Dark Energy controversy is one of my favorites. On so many ways, referencing Dark Energy as a potential explanation for the Universe’s rapid expansion in the infinitesimally brief moments after the Big Bang seems plausible. It’s the only way we can understand how our Universe is expanding now if there’s a force acting in the opposite direction of gravity.
However, just like the Pluto debate, there is a lot of venom on both sides. To several, the IAU’s decision to demote the tiny plutoid seems to be planetary heresy (although, personally, the IAU could call Pluto an asteroid and I doubt my blood would boil too much). When it comes to Dark Energy, the claim that “that’s not science, that’s nonsense!” will resurface.
Dark Energy is a difficult hypothesis to refute, but cosmologists have established it based on a variety of data from a variety of sources. Until a better theory emerges, Dark Energy will continue to be an unseen force wreaking havoc on our universe.

👧 Universe today

Our galaxy, the Milky Way, is typical in that it contains hundreds of billions of stars, enough hydrogen and dust to create billions more stars, and at least ten times as much dark matter as all of the stars and gas combined. And gravity holds it all together.
The Milky Way, like more than two-thirds of all observed galaxies, has a spiral shape. A great deal of energy and, on rare occasions, vivid flares are produced at the spiral’s base. The astronomers believe that the Milky Way’s core is a supermassive black hole based on the enormous gravity needed to explain the movement of stars and the energy ejected.
Other galaxies are elliptical, and a few are oddly shaped like toothpicks or circles. This diversity can be seen in the Hubble Ultra Deep Field (HUDF). Hubble looked at a small patch of sky (one-tenth the diameter of the moon) for one million seconds (11.6 days) and discovered about 10,000 galaxies of various sizes, shapes, and colors. From the land, we can only see a small part of this position in the constellation Fornax.
