Trx software class action lawsuit
I’ve used TRX in the past and found them to be decent value for money when it came to reselling other software packages. I gave them as much time as possible to fix their homegrown program that was “ready” at year end, but as of 2/15/13, state returns are all fucked up, estimates aren’t working, carryovers aren’t working, and the list goes on. Every TRX consumer is aware of what I’m referring to. I’m not going to embarrass myself by putting myself last in this season. I turned to Proseries, which cost a little more but gave me peace of mind. Unfortunately, I’ll have to redo all of the previous returns, but I’ll get over it and keep moving forward. I demanded a refund and, predictably, received no response.

However, this raises even more concerns about the TaxWorks program we used in recent years. How can we get updates if we ever change computers? Other than the initial install disks, I never received any CDs. Can we e-file prior years or install on another machine now that both TaxWorks and TRX are no longer available?
The updates, I believe, are handled by Redgear servers, and you can currently download updates for 2009, 2010, and 2011. It was the first time I tried it today. The issue will arise if they disable any update services or shut down their servers.
I believe the smart thing to do right now is to upgrade all of your previous year Taxworks applications and create a mirror image of the Taxprep directory, including all subdirectories and files below it, using a good backup method.
Then you should fix the mirror image. You’ll have trouble running the app at first because it will send you registry errors. Don’t be alarmed; most of the time, a registry editor in the hands of a knowledgeable individual will solve the issue. There are also programs that can help, such as Norton 360 Registry Fixit and others.

Microsoft and Microsoft Canada have agreed to pay a total of $409,936,100 CAD to settle multiple class action lawsuits alleging that they conspired to inflate the prices of some Microsoft goods.
You could be eligible for a cash payout from the Canada Microsoft class action settlement if you bought PC versions of Microsoft products such as MS-DOS, Windows, Office, Word, and/or Excel between 1998 and 2010.
The Microsoft class action case went to trial in May 2016, but the parties then went to mediation to try to settle the conflict. The parties allegedly signed a national class action settlement on July 11, 2018.
According to the Microsoft class action settlement papers, “the plaintiffs charged that Microsoft participated in an illegal and anti-competitive campaign with the intent and effect of destroying competition in the markets for Intel-compatible PC OS and office productivity applications software.”
The plaintiffs accused the defendants of engaging in a number of anticompetitive practices that allowed them to artificially increase commodity prices. Since 1988, Microsoft has reportedly entered into wrongful arrangements with rivals, personal computer manufacturers, and independent software vendors, according to the Microsoft class action lawsuit.
