A burn down chart is a graphical representation of the amount of work left to do versus the amount of time available. It’s commonly used in Scrum and other agile software development methodologies. Burn down maps, on the other hand, can be used on any project with observable improvement over time.
The outstanding work is usually on the vertical axis in a burn down map, with time on the horizontal. It can be used to estimate when all of the work will be finished. The Development Team updates the Sprint Burn Down and plots the remaining work for the day in the Daily Scrum. For the following reasons, a burndown map is almost a “must-have” tool for a Scrum team:

To render this graph, add up the Sprint Backlog figures for each day of the Sprint to see how much work is left. The total amount of work left for a Sprint is equal to the total amount of work left for the entire Sprint Backlog. Burn up vs burn down charts – differences explained
A burn down chart is a graphical representation of the amount of work left to do versus the amount of time available. Time is mostly on the horizontal axis, with outstanding work (or backlog) on the vertical. A run map of outstanding work is called a burn down chart. It can be used to estimate when all of the work will be finished. It’s commonly used in Scrum and other agile software development methodologies. Burn down maps, on the other hand, can be used on any project with observable improvement over time.
In the example above, there are 28 days of work to be completed, and two developers are working on the project at a 70 percent efficiency rate. As a result, the project should be done in (28 2) 0.7 = 20 days.
This is a straight line that extends from the beginning to the end. The ideal line represents the sum of all projections for all tasks (work) that must be completed at the start stage. The ideal line intersects the x-axis at the end point, suggesting that there is no more work to be done. Some people object to the term “ideal” because it isn’t always accurate that the intention is to follow this path. This line is a statistical equation based on guesses, and guesses are more likely to be wrong than function. A burn down chart’s aim is to show the progress toward completion and provide an estimation of the probability of finishing on time.
