Concrete is an amazing material. It’s easy to put within the forms because it’s soft and almost liquid when assembled, and it can be finished with a variety of surface textures. It is solid and hard when fully healed, and it is resistant to impact and weight. In those two states, the concrete must cure for a period of time in order to reach its maximum strength and hardness. We understand that you are anxious to get your new Minnesota driveway, patio, sidewalk, or other concrete project up and running. We’re looking forward to it as well, but first we need to provide you with the details you’ll need to avoid damaging your new concrete during the curing process.

How can child welfare departments that use the same Signs of Safety strategy and work with the same trainers and consultants make such disparate progress (and, in some cases, regress)? This is the subject of the second report on the England Innovations Programme, titled “You Can’t Grow Roses in Concrete,” Part 2.
Munro, Turnell and Murphy Child Security Consultancy (MTM) was awarded two grants by the UK government to collaborate with ten English local authorities on whole-system reform to promote Signs of Safety practice, the first for 18 months in 2014–16 (EIP1) and the second for two years in 2017–19. (EIP2).
All of the authorities were inspected twice by Ofsted, the national inspection body, over the course of the five-year project. Three authorities improved to the highest rating of ‘outstanding,’ four showed some improvement, and three either did not improve or worsened to the lowest rating of ‘inadequate.’ On one level, the differences are unsurprising: incorporating reform into complicated social structures such as child welfare organizations would have differing consequences based on how the change interacts with other parts of the system. But what other aspects of the structure have the most sway? The information on how each authority implemented the parts of the Signs of Safety implementation process is gathered in this report to see if success on the implementation predicts progress in Ofsted judgments.

In 2018, 22 major hurricanes made landfall in the Northern Hemisphere, causing $28 billion in damage annually, according to the Congressional Budget Office. According to a National Geographic survey, the 2017 hurricane season was the most costly in US history. Concrete is the way to go if you’re looking for a way to protect your family and valuables.
Concrete is immune to strong winds and heavy rain. A reinforced concrete home in Mexico Beach, Florida, was one of the few homes that survived Hurricane Michael earlier this year. Using safer, more resilient construction practices to avoid collateral damage and save money over the building’s lifecycle is known as hazard reduction.
In California alone, 6,273 wildfires have destroyed 876,131 acres since January 1, 2018. Fortunately, concrete can withstand temperatures of up to 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Concrete ingredients like cement and aggregate are practically non-combustible, and the slow rate of heat transfer protects your home and belongings from flames and excessive heat.
